An eclipse is temporary concealment of all or part of a star by the interposition of another.

The solar eclipse occurs when the Moon comes between the Sun and Earth, casting its shadow on Earth's surface.

The lunar eclipse occurs when Earth comes between the Sun and Moon, in this case our planet's shadow darkens the moon.
